Who's Who?
Vicar - The Rev'd Seth Cooper
Seth has been vicar in Walmer since 2005, he was previously team vicar in Uxbridge, London, and curate in Golders Green, London. Seth trained for the ordained ministry in Cambridge after working in sales and marketing for various firms in and around London. Seth's own mission is to serve God by serving God's people. As vicar of Walmer Seth is also chaplain to the Lifeboat Station and the Marines Memorial Bandstand. He is married with two children.
Authorised Lay Minister - Paul Henderson
Paul is a former teacher who has trained to be a church minister in children's work and worship leading. He is involved with collective worship at the Downs Church of England primary school and takes services in the parish.
Churchwardens
Churchwardens are elected each year to oversee many of the practical aspects of church life but are also appointed to assist the vicar in the church's mission
John Clapson MBE - St Mary's
John has lived locally for many years and has been part of the church for most of that time. He served as a paramedic and now enjoys a busy retirement.
Sylvia Bowley - St Saviour's
Sylvia is a full time civil servant and devotes much of her spare time to church life both here in Walmer and at Betteshangar where she oversees St Mary's church.
The parish also has two deputy wardens – Sue Case and Les Alton
Director of Music - Brian Cottle
Brian has been a church organist most of his adult life and is knowledgeable in both traditional and contemporary church music. As well as playing at Sunday and occasional services Brian also directs the parish choristers.
Administrators
PCC secretary - Bill Butler
Peter minutes the Parochial Church Council, PCC standing committee and Annual Parish meetings, distributes documentation for these meetings, and handles diocesan paperwork for the parish.
Parish Office - Elaine Wickenden
Elaine is our Parish Administrator and staffs the parish office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9.30am-12.30pm. Elaine oversees the preparation of our weekly newssheet, various rotas, and general administration tasks.
Baptisms/Thanksgiving - Brenda Ruddock-West
Brenda oversees the administration of families preparing for
baptism or thanksgiving in church.
Weddings - Monica Hawkins
Monica oversees the administration of couples preparations for their church wedding.
Magazine Editor - Gerald Williams
Gerald compiles and produces the Church News each month.
PoW@Kidz co-ordinator - Jennie Cooper
Jennie oversees the children's work in the parish and has been working with children in church settings since she had her own children ten years ago. Jennie also helps out at our parish church school.
