Children's Society

The Children's Society is the Church of England's own children's charity. For over a century it has sought to help children whose family life and economic security has broken down. At first this was through a network of care homes but it's work is now focussed through school and community based projects, and campaigning for children's rights.

Walmer Parish Churches have a network of people who keep a donations box at home or at their place of work. Each year the donations are pooled, counted, and sent off to the Children's society.

The Children's society also promotes Christingle services, usually held in churches at Christmas time. In Walmer the Christingle at St Mary's attracts large numbers of young families and the collection at the service is donated to the work of the Children's Society.
